Stockbridge — the Sunday market, the Colonies, the brunch spots — and the fairytale Dean Village just along the Water of Leith. Both are controlled weekday‑daytime only, so evenings and weekends are free.
Stockbridge & Dean Village parking rules
Stockbridge sits in Zone 5A and Dean Village in the adjoining Zone 5. During those controlled hours you must either pay at the machine or on the RingGo app, or display a valid Zone 5 or 5A residents permit. Like all of Edinburgh's S and peripheral zones, it runs Monday to Friday only and stops at 5:30pm — there's no weekend charging at all. Streets here include Hamilton Place, Deanhaugh Street, Carlton Street, Circus Gardens, Gloucester Street, Bell's Brae and Dean Path.
When is parking free in Stockbridge & Dean Village?
- Every weekday after 5:30pm — the bays revert to free.
- All day Saturday and all day Sunday — these zones don't operate at weekends.
Zones 5 and 5A wrap around the Water of Leith between the New Town and Inverleith, with the Royal Botanic Garden a short walk north. Because it's free out of hours, the popular streets fill quickly, so you may need a couple of laps. And free bays never excuse a yellow line — double yellows apply 24/7.
Free parking near Stockbridge & Dean Village
Further out toward Inverleith and Comely Bank some streets are cheaper or uncontrolled, but spaces by the Botanics and the market are tight. Our free parking guide and the map show exactly where the controlled zone ends.
