Edinburgh's West End — the handsome Georgian crescents around Coates, Atholl and Chester Street, stretching to Palmerston Place and down towards Haymarket. It's central Zone 1, charged six days a week and on Sunday afternoons.

💷 The short answerThe West End is Zone 1 — about £6.80 an hour. Charged Monday–Saturday 8:30am–6:30pm and Sunday 12:30pm–6:30pm, with maximum stays. Free after 6:30pm and before 12:30pm on Sundays.

On-street parking in the West End

Coates Crescent and Gardens, Atholl Crescent and Place, Chester Street, Drumsheugh Gardens, Melville Street and Palmerston Place are all Zone 1. Pay at the machine or on RingGo, or display a Zone 1 residents' permit. As a central zone it runs Monday to Saturday and on Sunday afternoons, and many bays have a maximum stay.

When is parking free in the West End?

The rest of the time it's charged, and double yellow lines apply 24/7.

🚉 Near Haymarket? The West End is a short walk from Haymarket station, so it sees commuter demand on weekday daytimes. For a longer stay, Castle Terrace car park is nearby, or use a Park & Ride and take the tram in (it stops at Haymarket and the West End).

Heads up: the West End and the LEZ

The West End sits on the western edge of Edinburgh's Low Emission Zone (Palmerston Place is roughly the boundary). If your vehicle doesn't meet the emission standards, check the LEZ map before driving in, as you can be fined separately from any parking charge.
